Introduction of Lobuche Peak Climbing
If you wish to gaze upon the grandeur of Everest, and the stunningly majestic Khumbu region, from an elevation of more than 6000 m, then the Lobuche Peak Climbing journey is made for you.
An endless snowy and glacial landscape stretches before your eyes, and you will be suspended in the vast expanse of clouds. This exquisite sensation is the essence of our Lobuche Peak climbing expedition.
The Peak itself is a beautiful mix of rock, snow, and ice that sits enthroned in the Lobuche hamlet of the Khumbu region. It consists of two eastern and western peaks of 6119 m and 6145 m.
The western peak has a significant challenge, characterized by its technical difficulties while the Lobuche East (which we will be attempting) is one of the most easily accessible high peaks in the world that provides you a great opportunity to bag your first 6000 m high summit.
The date of 25th April of 1984 will resonate forever in history when Laurence Nielson and Ang Gyalzen Sherpa triumphed at Lobuche East Peak for the very first time.
Apart from its easy accessibility, the Lobuche Peak climbing is very interesting as the summit itself is a beautiful gateway to the world of the high peaks of the Himalayas. Everest, Cholatse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khanglemu, Island Peak, Lhotse, and Nuptse stand just a stone’s throw apart.
As for our Lobuche Peak climbing journey, it starts with a trip to Everest Base Camp from the quaint settlements of Lukla, Namche, Phortse, and Dingboche. On the way to Lobuche, you will have an acclimatizing crossing of two high points: Nangkartshang Hill (5083 m) at Dingboche and Thukla/Dughla Pass (4830 m).
Then, the Everest base camp at 5364 m will be reached which will allow you to see the incredible ice waterfall of the highest peak in the world. The day finally arrives when you will climb to the top of Lobuche- a beautiful Himalayan mountain for the enthusiastic alpinist.
Your remarkable Lobuche Peak climbing journey will then culminate in a splendid circular trek along the iconic Everest trail.
Less busy than its neighbors such as Island Peak or Ama Dablam, the Lobuche Peak climbing trip will allow you to apply your mountaineering techniques with a minimum of difficulty in an absolutely splendid setting.
Intrigued right? The climbing season is just around the corner, hurry and secure your place on our exquisite tour today.

Get ready to meet the Himalayan giants for the first time as you fly to Lukla- a mountain village to start your first trekking stage. The flight will be a true experience, as for the first time you will see the majesty of the white peaks (Kanchenjunga and Everest) that extend beyond the horizon.
After an exciting landing, we will be welcomed by our crew (Sherpa guide and porters) while Mount Kongde Ri, 6187 m, will stand tall waving at us.
We will have a gentle downhill walk today through the picturesque rhododendron forests beside the white calm waters of the Dudh Koshi River. Enjoy crossing the small idyllic mountain villages of Chheplung, Chaurikharka, Thadokoshi, and Ghat before reaching Phakding- our first mountain home for the night.
En route, the bewitching Kusum Kangaru Himal (6367 m) and Khumbila Himal (5761 m) will reveal themselves today.
Attention
Flights to Lukla from Kathmandu frequently experience delays or cancellations due to adverse weather conditions. During the high air traffic load in spring and autumn, internal Lukla flight will be rerouted to Manthali Airport located 130 kilometers from Kathmandu.
It requires 4 hours of drive and the flight to Lukla will only take about 20 minutes. This measure has been enforced to minimize waiting times for travelers and to prevent delays to their itineraries.
We also provide an option to our members to opt for a shared helicopter ride for $450 per person, which significantly reduces the travel time and provides a more dependable option.

Today, our climbing guide will provide a brief mountain training session for the summit push the next day. Although the peak has no major technical difficulties but you must know how to walk roped as a team and hold on to your grip when going up and down on a slope of around 45°/50°. You must know how to use a descender, using a jumar is essential.
After the necessary training, we will take time to rest and retire early for the night, as the duration of the night will be brief. We plan to commence our ascent to the summit at approximately 3 a.m.

Our aim is to ensure that each climber reaches the summit successfully. If all proceeds as planned, the reserved day will not be necessary.

Lobuche Peak Climbing - Trip Information
Spring (between early March and late May) and autumn (from late September to early December), before and after the monsoon (between July to early September) are the most stable and comfortable seasons suitable for Lobuche Peak climbing. During this time, meteorological conditions are relatively favorable for mountaineering.
The weather is pleasantly warm and dry with heat in capital fluctuating between 15°C and 30°C and on trek between 10°C to 25°C. Nights can be pretty cold though from the altitude above 3500 m.
In spring, you can see the rhododendrons and other mountain flowers in full bloom during your hikes. We don’t suggest winters (between late December and February) and summer/monsoon seasons for climbing any peak as the associated dangers are heightened.
Stretching 150 km in length from Kathmandu, the Lobuche Peak climbing route encompasses the unique terrain from the luscious forests of hemlock, juniper, pine, rhododendron, and birch, to juniper which gradually gives way to tall alpine plants, scrub and grasslands at the high altitudes.
You will also encounter the sharp angles of peaks, steep slopes, sharp lines of narrow ridges, transparent mountain lakes, and sparkling glaciers all the while providing shelter to red panda, Thar, snow leopards, musk deer, and pika.
The Lobuche Peak climbing is a moderately challenging expedition where you must be prepared to spend between 4 to 8 hours outdoors each day. The summit day will need you to manage the 9 to 10 hours of climbing along the steeply narrow slopes inclining to 40 to 60 degrees on fixed rope.
The Peak on the other hand is designated as PD+ grade which means climbers must be well-prepared in essential mountaineering skills and the use of necessary equipment.
In addition, the 150 km long trekking journey traversing the 5364 m Everest Base Camp and tackling the almost 5100 m Nagarjun Hill is technically an easy but demanding mountain hike. What sets this trek apart from others is the altitude which can make the air feel thinner.
Therefore, to successfully conquer the Lobuche Peak, it is a must to be in good physical condition and possess skills for traversing high alpine landscapes.
Lobuche East Peak is literally a beginner-friendly peak that most climbers undertake to prepare themselves for the greater challenge of Ama Dablam, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, and so on.
However, the Lobuche despite being categorized as the trekking peak is a giant Himalaya after all where unpredictability reigns supreme. Therefore a previous high-altitude trekking experience and a familiarity with mountaineering and its basic equipment will be a plus point.
We believe that climbing Lobuche Peak should be accessible to everyone, which is why we have a qualified and experienced climbing guide on hand. He will not only track your progress and assist you in tough sections but will also provide essential training on how to use your climbing gear.
With years of experience in organizing the Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition, we have welcomed participants from healthy teenagers to adventurous individuals in their 70s.
All that is needed is good health, free from serious conditions, and the ability to walk and climb for several hours.
One of the significant challenges we have to confront in our Lobuche peak climbing expedition is the increasing altitude and the accompanying thin air. While our highest overnight accommodation will be at Gorakshep, we cannot underestimate the difficult conditions that await us at Lobuche Base Camp.
Each participant reacts differently to the thin air and low oxygen levels in the air. Some may have slight headaches, while some may feel dizziness. Some may lose interest to eat and some may find it difficult to sleep. While some may feel all the symptoms of altitude sickness together.
That is why, we do not rush anything and have chosen to stay for two nights at Namche, Dingboche, and Lobuche Base Camp. So all participants will get ample opportunity to complete their own adjustment.
Many climbers and trekkers choose to take Diamox when in Kathmandu to enhance their acclimatization process before they set on their journey.

Note
We provide essential climbing gear for our participants, including ropes, snow anchors, duffel bags, and full-sleeve t-shirts. However, we highly recommend that you bring your own personal equipment as outlined in our list.
While it is possible to rent gear in Kathmandu at reasonable prices, you may face issues such as size mismatches, quality concerns, or costs that exceed your budget.
Specifically for hiking and climbing shoes, we strongly advise purchasing a new pair before your trip and wearing them as much as possible. New shoes can often lead to blisters, which can be quite uncomfortable during long hikes.
For Lobuche Peak climbing, travel insurance is not just recommended but it’s mandatory. Without the copies of your insurance policy, we won’t be able to obtain the necessary permits for both Everest Park and the Peak.
In addition, in the Himalayas, nothing goes as expected and planned; even the most prepared and experienced climbers can find themselves in unexpected challenges.
From slips, injuries, accidents, and ankle sprain, to altitude sickness that may require urgent helicopter rescue and evacuation, the risks present are real. Without insurance, you may end up with a large bill.
Therefore, we strongly recommend you go for comprehensive coverage in your insurance including medical, trip and flight cancellation, and specialized mountaineering insurance that includes helicopter rescue for elevations above 6,000 meters.
Undertaking the high mountain trekking trail is not something to be taken lightly. This journey involves ascending to 6000 meters above the Himalayas, which is a serious challenge that requires adequate preparation.
You can start your training 2 to 3 months ahead of your trip by incorporating walking into your routine, gradually progressing to cycling or running.
To further enhance your climbing skills, you can then engage in rock or wall climbing sessions and familiarize yourself with essential equipment like crampons, ice axes, jumars, and ropes.
Now is the perfect time to put your skills to the test by engaging in a hiking adventure in nearby mountains. We highly recommend trying the Ghorepani and Poon Hill trek or the easier Annapurna Base Camp trek so you can anticipate what lies ahead in our Lobuche peak climbing journey.
In Kathmandu, you will spend your evenings in three-star hotel rooms with double occupancy. During the trekking part, you will stay in comfortable mountain lodges with private bathrooms.
Unfortunately, in Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep, there are no comfortable lodges so you will stay in the best available shelters in double rooms. Please note that the sanitary facilities in Gorakshep are shared.
You will enjoy a camping experience at the base camp, where our team will install a private sleeping tent with common dining and toilet tents.
Breakfast is part of the package in Kathmandu while all meals are covered during the trekking. You will have breakfast and dinner at your overnight lodge, while lunch will be provided at a local lodge during the trekking journey.
When camping, our cooking team will provide you with a delicious and well-prepared meal. We will provide an excellent expedition cook and a team of assistants who will follow throughout the journey.
Since our Lobuche Peak Climbing is a combination of trek and climb, walking is in the spotlight on this great hike to the base camp and to the Lobuche summit.
Other trips, such as transfers from the airport to your hotel as well as visits to historical sites in the Kathmandu Valley, are done by private vehicle. We also offer round-trip airfare from Kathmandu to Lukla, including connecting flights from Manthali.
For better coverage in the Everest region, you should select the Ncell SIM card rather than the Namaste SIM card. Both local providers offer 4G services and the option of an eSIM.
It is possible to charge your electronic devices a few times during your stay in the lodges. Costs between $2 and $5 will be requested.
Wi-Fi networks through the Everest Link or AirLink are found in most hotels and in some restaurants, sometimes free, sometimes for a fee. Internet is a lot rarer during the trek, but perhaps accessible at Namche Bazaar and Gorapshep.
For our Lobuche Peak climbing expedition, the climbing permit will be needed that will be obtained from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) in Kathmandu.
As for the Everest National Park entry permit and the local Khumbu Municipality permit, they will be secured in Lukla. Our guide will manage the entire permit process, and the fees are covered in our service package.
Most Asked Questions
How do you compare the three trekking peaks: Lobuche, Mera, and Island?
Among the three peaks, Mera Peak is the simplest one rising to 6476 m in the Makalu Barun National Park. Island Peak, at 6,165 meters, presents a more technical challenge than Mera Peak, yet it is less demanding than Lobuche Peak.
How long will we remain at the Lobuche summit?
The summit day will be lengthy (9 to 10 hours) considering the climbing and descending duration. Therefore, we will spend about 10 to 15 minutes immersed in the adorable view.
What other peaks can I climb with Lobuche?
For an experienced climber, the three peaks of Mera, Lobuche, and Island Peaks in a single trip are available.
Is reaching Everest Base Camp necessary in your Lobuche Peak Climbing journey?
It is not required that you trek to Everest Base Camp in this climbing journey. We have integrated the EBC as well because we want to ensure the complete acclimatization of each participant so they can smoothly climb the summit.
