Introduction of Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass Trek

There is one of the few corners of the Earth where the spirit of modernity is not yet so strong, and in some places, it is completely absent. This is exactly the type of place we want to take our every guest in a short amount of time which is why we are sharing our 16 days long Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass trek.

This is the trek where you will journey to the origins of Earth and get to feel the original timeless essence of Nature. Our Langtang Lauribina pass trek will give you almost endless opportunities for unity with nature: trekking, the unique cultural experience, rushing waterfalls and deep jungles to the eternally standing tall glaciers and mountains.

The three destinations await you in our Lauribina pass trekking trip. An 8 to 9-hour road travel will take you to Syabrubesi from where your hiking section follows to Langtang region.

This region, with its many beautiful 6,000 and 7,000-meter mountains, to the north of the capital is closest to Kathmandu and, therefore quickest to reach.

Langtang (7246 m), Langtang Lirung (7234 m), Dorje Lakpa (6966 m), Shishapangma (8027 m), Gangchempo (6387 m), Mount Manaslu (8163 m), Ganesh Himal (7422 m) and others will be your companions.

You will also have the choice of rising over the 5050 m high Chorkari Ri in Kyanjin Gompa which again bestows the expansive phenomenal views of the Yala, Yansa Tsenji, Naya Kang, and Ponggen Dokpu.

Our Lauribina Pass trekking will then usher us to the 4610 m high stony walls of the Lauribina Pass. It is a mountainous ridge located at the base of the Langtang Himalayas, uniquely inhabited by the Sherpas, making it quite an interesting place to explore.

Then, we advance to the pious Gosaikunda Lake- a revered lake for Buddhists and Hindus. Faiths have that it is the summer residence of Lord Mahadev. Each August, during the Janai Purnima festival, thousands of devotees flock to this sacred site to cleanse themselves by taking a dip in its holy waters.

Here, you will have the feeling that the great Himalayan mountain ranges Annapurna, Manaslu, and Ganesh are just a stone’s throw away from you.

As our Langtang Lauribina pass trek comes to a finish, Helambu anticipates your arrival where you will descend through the beautiful forests of rhododendrons, pines, oaks, and firs, and return to Kathmandu past beautiful cultural landscapes.

The Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina pass trek has been unjustifiably ignored by many tourists. However, this trek is not as long and difficult as in other areas of Nepal.

Therefore, our Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina pass trek will be a fantastic introductory tour in Nepal, especially suited for those who prefer to steer clear of high altitudes.

Trip Highlights

  • A trek at a comfortable elevation suitable for all adventurers
  • Phenomenal panorama of Yala, Yansa Tsenji, Naya Kang, Ponggen Dokpu, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, Ganesh, and many more

Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass Trek - Trip Information

Stretching to a total length of 75 km, the Lauribina Pass trekking route will take us through the unique blend of mixed terrain. From rich tropical vegetation to the icy glaciers and eternal snow, the trek consists of everything.

The picturesque waterfalls, roaring mountain rivers, peaceful lakes, and gorges rich with dense conifer forests, rhododendrons, and bamboo will be the first segment of the route followed by the tall bushes and snowy sections in the latter stage.

That means we will be journeying through three distinct areas during our Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina pass trek. The Langtang Valley lies 61.8 afar from Kathmandu, Gosaikunda 67.5 km beyond, and Helambu 75 km farther. We will start from Syabrubesi, 122 km farther lonely village, which needs 8 to 9 hours of road travel.

The tallest altitude of our journey will be at Lauribina Pass which looms at 4610 m. However, if we decide to ascend Chorakri Ri while acclimatizing at Kyanjin Gompa, ten its 5050 m altitude will be the highest point. Gosaikunda with its 4380 m altitude will be our highest sleeping altitude during this trek.

Langtang experiences a temperate subtropical humid climate characterized by dry winters and hot summers. The region’s average temperature throughout the year is 18.5°C, with total yearly rainfall averaging 555.9 mm.

January stands out as the driest month that receives around 9.4 mm of rain, whereas August will be the peak rainy time when rainfall occurs averaging 123.7 mm.

Therefore, the Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina pass trek will be best experienced during the driest period of autumn (September through November) and spring (March through May).

The stunning greenery with rushing waters on the rivers and streams with the giant multi-colored rhododendrons in spring and the oil painting-like color of autumn with the clearest visuals of mountains will make this trip even more wonderful.

The coldest months of December, January, and February can lead to heavy snow and ice on the journey to Lauribina Pass. On the other hand, the wettest period from June to August is characterized by many foggy days.

The Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass trek is a hiking adventure designed for those with moderate skill levels. It is an intermediary trek that will take you to the highest height of 4160 m at the Lauribina Pass.

The daily stage doesn’t go beyond 6 hours most days except for the one special day when overcoming the Pass itself (except for of course when you choose to climb the Chorkari Ri).

The 4000 m above altitude will be tough however manageable if you stick to the necessary acclimatization rules. Any specialized technicality is not present on the track.

Anyone in good health and reasonable shape can take on this route. While having some prior experience is a plus, it’s not essential for joining in. We have designed the route plan to help you avoid altitude sickness, and we keep a close eye on this for your safety.

If you are someone without a chronic illness and eager for a hiking adventure near the capital, you are welcome to join our 16-day-long Lauribina pass trekking.

This route is situated close to Kathmandu, is well-signposted, and has charming modest tea houses along the route. The maximum altitude doesn’t exceed 5000 m, making it a fantastic option for new hikers, seniors, families, and younger children.

However, it is significant to be conscious about the possible risks and hazards in Nepal’s mountainous regions. The Laure Binayak Pass, which reaches 4610 m, presents a significant challenge. Additionally, since the Langtang and Helambu areas are in their juvenile stage, the facilities will be minimal.

The height range of 4000 to 5000 meters in the Langtang Lauribina Pass trek can often lead to milder altitude sickness. To best avoid this, we have planned a rest day with an acclimatization walk in Kyanjin Gompa, followed by lighter walking hours in the days ahead to help you adjust before facing the challenging pass.

However, some may still experience symptoms like headaches, fatigue, disrupted sleep and eating patterns, and slight breathing discomfort. These common signs usually disappear automatically withing 1 to 3 days of travel. For the ultimate hiking experience, you have to take your time and avoid walking quickly.

It is wise that you prepare yourself mentally for the potential occurrence of these symptoms. If you focus on building your endurance and staying well-nourished and hydrated during your hike, you can reduce the likelihood and impact of these symptoms.

A lot of trekkers also choose to take Diamox one or two days ahead of their trip so they can adapt to the altitude more effectively. Just remember, it’s a diuretic medication, so it is vital to increase your water intake beyond your normal intake.

There’s an alternative anticlockwise trekking route to our Langtang Lauribina Pass trek that commences with the Helambu Valley trek, allowing you to enter the Langtang region by crossing the Laurebinayak Pass.

The trekking route for this option will be:

Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal →Trek to Chisapani→Kutumsang→Tharepati→ Phedi→Cross Lauribina Pass and hike to Gosaikunda Lake→Thulo Syabru→Lama Hotel→Langtang Village→Kyanjin Gompa→Rest Day→Lama Hotel→Syabrubesi→Drive to Kathmandu→Departure

You can also consider reducing the length of this journey. If this itinerary seems a bit too extensive for you, you can trek to any one of the regions we have listed here.

You could simply hike to Gosaikunda Lake only, or you can hike to Langtang Valley only or only Helambu. Each of these solo region treks only takes a week to complete.

On our 16-day journey through the Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass trek, we will offer you a two-night stay in a lovely three-star hotel in a double room in Kathmandu.

From Syabrubesi onward, you will live in lodges in rooms with two beds, paired with other travelers of the same gender. These guesthouses are operated by local residents where you can expect internet, water, and electricity.

We will take care of breakfast for you in Kathmandu, offering a variety of options including Nepali, Chinese, Indian, and Western dishes. However, lunch and dinner expense in Kathmandu will be on you.

When walking, we will eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the mountai lodging. The meals on the trek might feel a bit repetitive, with choices like rice, lentils, vegetables, momos, noodles, soups, apple pie, and pasta.

Please consider that you will oversee for the price of bakery items, soda, alcohol, and other beverages.

In our 16-day-long Lauribina Pass trekking expedition, you will have exclusive access to private transportation throughout. This includes a personalized pick-up from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and a drop-off at TIA in a private vehicle.

Additionally, you will have a private ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and a return journey to Kathmandu from Tarkyeghyang.

You won’t have any trouble staying connected during our Langtang Lauribina pass trek. Most people in nearly all the villages have smartphones that work with NTC and Ncell networks. You will also find recharge cards readily available at the lodges.

You can also choose to use NTC or NCELL eSIM cards, which can be activated online, so you won’t need a physical SIM card. These networks currently offer 4G for fast internet speeds.

All the lodges provide Wi-Fi, although it can be a bit sluggish at times. Additionally, there are charging outlets in the lodges for your batteries, mobile devices, cameras, and power banks.

Please remember that these amenities will involve a tiny amount to be paid by yourself.

Our Langtang Gosaikunda Lauribina Pass Trek requires you to have purchased travel insurance to ensure that you can pay if you go wrong. No one knows what will happen in the mountains, you will be exposed to unforeseen events such as acute illness, theft, flight cancellation, longer stays, and even baggage loss.

When you go over your insurance policy, ensure it covers:

  • Home transport in connection with illness
  • Compensation for theft and robbery
  • Costs for extra hotel and lodge stay and meals and more
  • If your luggage is delayed
  • Cover for your emergency rescue from the mountains in a helicopter
  • Cover for altitude sickness

Always read the terms of your travel insurance carefully to see exactly what the insurance covers. Also, check the sum insured when choosing insurance.

You must be aware of whether the amount you are covered for in different situations matches your expectations and the values you take with you on holiday.

One of the vital requirements for our Langtang Lauribina pass trek is that you should be in good health. It’s important that you do not have any serious health issues, such as respiratory infections or diseases affecting your heart, lungs, or kidneys, as these conditions can worsen in high mountain valleys.

If you are on any long-term medication, please seek advice from your doctor and ensure you bring your medications along for the trip.

Additionally, this is a multi-day trek that will involve at least 13 days of walking. Each day typically includes 5 to 6 hours of walking, which requires a significant commitment and a good level of endurance.

To prepare well, you can start with morning and evening jogging, or stair climbing. Then you can move on to cycling, running, and swimming, subsequently joining a club for mountain hiking.

The trekking journey first hand will help you comprehend what to anticipate during your mountain excursions. We also suggest you gather plenty of information about Langtang and Helambu to equip yourself for the challenges that may arise on your trek.

For the hiking region of Langtang and Helambu, we have to organize the entry permit for Langtang National Park which we can get either from Kathmandu’s Nepal Tourism Board or at the checkpoint to the National Park for USD 26 (NPR 3000 per person).

We will also be required to have the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card for USD 16 (NPR 2000 per person). By purchasing a TIMS card, you will be registered in the Langtang and Helambu regions.

There are checkpoints en route where every trekker will be checked for permits. During this check, the entry date or start of the hike is noted in the passport.
