Introduction of Island Peak Climbing
Island Peak Climbing is a complete adrenaline supplier for the trekkers who do not hesitate to rise up and challenge the Island Peak. Island Peak is 6165 meters high above sea level and lies in the northeast part of Nepal within Khumbu region (the Everest region).
Island Peak is popularly known as Imja Tse. The name “Island Peak” was given by the British mountaineer Eric Shipton in 1951, as the peak looks like an island, surrounded by many glaciers coming down from majestic mountains that are over 7000 to 8000 meters high.
Island Peak has been scaled by many mountain climbers from all over the world, including the well-known Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. According to Swiss and French alpine systems, Island Peak Climbing is categorized as PD+ (Peu Difficile), which means slightly tough.
Therefore, you must have great willpower, a physically fit body, sound mental health, and the necessary prior training and exercises to embark on the Island Peak Climbing journey. This moderately hard climb journey will reward you with one of the most amazing heavenly senses of the Himalayas and the landscape of Nepal.
Lukla is the first stop on the Island Peak Climbing Journey. It is a well-known location in the Khumbu region. Following the Dudh Koshi Valley, you will approach Phakding Village from Lukla. As part of a vibrant cultural tour of the town, you will be moving to Namche Bazaar, the entrance to Mount Everest, which is undoubtedly an unforgettable experience.
From Namche Bazaar, you will be moving on your trek packed with beautiful scenery by going through Phortse, Dingboche, and descending to Chhukung before going to Island Peak Base Camp for the rest and necessary preparation required for the challenging climb.
The hike to Island Peak will lead you past monasteries, tiny hamlets, riotous rhododendron jungles, and a collection of enchanting landscapes. Upon climbing to the summit of the Island Peak, you will receive an incredible and phenomenal experience that will set you on fire from the inside of your body.
You will witness the panoramic vistas of some of the world’s most magnificent Himalayas, such as Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Mt. Lingtren, Changste, Kusum Khanguru, Tharmarserku, Mt. Makalu, Khumbi-La Peak, etc., including the earth’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest, in a close-range view from the top.
After reaching summits of Island Peak, you will go back to Lukla, going down through the villages of Chhukung, Tengboche, and Monjo. Afterward, you will fly back to Kathmandu, thus concluding the 17-day Island Peak Climbing tour. Apart from that, you will also get a chance to be exposed to Sherpa people’s hospitality, their way of life, and rich culture.

Island Peak Climbing - Trip Information
Although it is feasible all year round. The best times for climbing Island Peak are spring (March to June) and fall (September to early December). Spring sees temperatures between 15-18°C, rhododendrons bursting into bloom and beautiful skies, enhancing the experience.
Similarly, the temperature ranges from O to 15°C during the day and -15°C at night in the autumn season. You can get clear views of mountains, which makes landscapes more breathtaking. You get to enjoy different festivals that lie in this season. This is peak trekking season, so you need to book teahouses in advance.
In addition, there is a lot of snow in December, which makes the trails impassable in the winter. If you want to push yourself and go on this route in the dead of winter, you have to be ready with the right equipment. The monsoon season is best avoided because of the high levels of precipitation, mudslides, overcast sky, and landslides.
The distance from Luka to Island Peak Base Camp is approximately about 41 kilometers. You must regularly walk for five to six hours on this Island Peak Climbing journey. Altitude sickness is a major concern, trek above 500 meters in the mountainous region. The serious symptoms of altitude sickness that need to be treated immediately if noticed are the following: nausea, dizziness, headache, light shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, low urine output, vomiting, and loss of coordination.
However, if you experience any of the symptoms of altitude sickness, you need to calm down and inform your guide in case nobody notices you. He will help you stabilize your condition to ease you. If there is a serious problem, you will be rescued by helicopter and taken to the nearest hospital.
When hiking, you need to consistently consume three to four liters of water in order to prevent altitude sickness. To keep your body at a higher altitude, you can get teahouses to serve you garlic soup and ginger tea. You have to give up any negative habits you may have for the duration of the hiking trip, such as binge drinking or eating unhealthy meals.
The minimal duration of your walk will be only three to four hours on day 4 when you hike to Phakding Village from Lukla, day 9 when you ascend to Chhukung from Dingboche and day 11 when you trek to Island Peak Base Camp from Chhukung. Although the time is only three to four hours, the difficulty level can be varied on each day.

Similar to this, the majority of accommodations in the Khumbu region are lodges or mountain teahouses with communal twin rooms and in a tent before summit day.
There are not many amenities offered in this lodge; they are basic. It’s possible that you’ll have to share restrooms and pay extra for utilities like internet, water, and hot showers. The more you climb, the lesser number of facilities will be available when trekking.
You might even not get room to sleep during the peak hiking season. So, you need to reserve the rooms while you travel at this time. We cover three meals during the trek. You will find traditional Nepalese foods like rice, lentils, pickles, and vegetables, which are healthy and provide necessary energy and nutrition while hiking.
Some teahouses also serve a variety of Western dishes like pizza, stir-fried noodles, pasta, and others. You will get tea or coffee with the breakfast. But you need to pay yourself for soft drinks and other beverages, which we strictly restrict you to drinking apart from water. It is for your health to avoid health problems.
The package also covers your transportation cost at last but not the least. Our company will cover all the rides sure to and from pick up, drop off, and flight thereby protecting your safety. In addition, if the weather turns bad you can also upgrade for 450$ extra per person and get the helicopter ride in case you are in hurry.

You can do physical training to increase your endurance, strength, and stamina through activities like cycling, swimming, jogging, running, and many more.
You will increase your cardiovascular fitness with these activities. Similar to this, if you are physically flawless but mentally feeble, you will be afraid of the difficulties and roadblocks you will face when hiking. You must therefore maintain your motivation and optimism, imagine your ascent, and develop an obsession with finishing your quest.
Before starting Island Peak Climbing, make sure your travel insurance policy is valid for heights from 3000 m to 6000m above. A travel insurance policy is a must for this trek, and you will need to submit a copy of your policy.
